Danny's 1st Halloween

I got a tiger costume on sale from Carters online. We obviously think he wears it well. To get proper use out of it and give Danny a true 1st Halloween experience, we had him don it a couple times.

Trying it on when it arrived in the mail

At party on Saturday - don't mind my "Sandy" hair
Trick-or-Treating tonight
For trick-or-treating we walked to nearby neighborhood, Carolina Sands, where a bunch of kiddies were running amuck. This picture doesn't do it justice, but there were some pretty cute decorations, everyone sitting out in there driveways with candy bowls, etc.

I also took him to a local church's pumpkin patch for a photo op. Danny wasn't super impressed, though he did like eating the straw. Faceplanting in a pile of straw, however, not so much. Oops! Oh and yes that is Danny wearing his first flannel shirt. Like father like son...

Likeness

It's no secret that Danny looks a lot like his daddy. I mean the dark hair, darker and bigger eyes, his features dominated for sure.

Back of heads look alike much?
Scoping out the hurricane waves together...
After 12+ hours of labor, however, I'm very happy to say he's got a little of his momma as well. This picture comparison doesn't really do it justice, but I swear he has my same baby grin, nose and eye shape.

Toy Swap

Danny has quite a collection of toys and "things". Just the other day we swapped out some of the things he's grown out of, ie. the swing and bouncy chair. Weight-wise he could still use them, but he's way too curious to sit still, even if it's in a swinging or vibrating apparatus. The new kids on the block?

Saturday morning with Dad

Weekend mornings with Dad are the best. While Mom gets her beauty rest, we get to play! First, we warmed up in my nap nanny by doin' the hot dog dance to Mickey Mouse Club.

That was fun, but not nearly as fun as playing with my beach ball...

After that, I needed a rest (mostly from the creepy Tetris music that comes from my play mat), so I helped Daddy set his fantasy football lineup. I don't understand why he doesn't have any Redskins on his roster?! Then, we went out on the porch to check out Hurricane Sandy...

Finally, I needed to catch some zzz's because tonight is my big night - I'm going to reveal my Halloween costume at a party with Dad and Mom!

Break out the Windbreakers

Hurricane Sandy is expected to bring 50-60 mph winds and lots of rain to us this weekend. Danny is the only one with the appropriate "gear" - his Redskins windbreaker suit from his Grandma.  The rest of us are going to get soaked. Thinking about our friends and family to the North. Everyone be safe.

Only shot I could get of the back - Danny boy is quick!

Newest Skills

Just within the last couple weeks or so Danny has taken up some new, very cute skills. Though he's still a little booger when it comes to sleeping, he just gets sweeter and funnier every day.

I can now suck on my toes...

I'm grabbing EVERYTHING from drinks (watch out!), to lots of mommy's hair, to anything anyone is holding. I even like to "fishhook" mommy in the mouth as she sings me lullabies.

Not so fast Danny boy!
Last, but not least, I love jabbering and blowing spit. Here's a video with some good spit action. I must capture him "talking" soon. I swear he's saying maaaammmaaa, maaaammmaaa...

Weekend Visitors

This past weekend we were so fortunate to have Granddad and Lita visit from Maryland. All were smitten by Danny and Danny was so happy to have new people to play with and just loved being doted on.  Here's what we did...

Friday, I had a meeting in the morning and then rushed back to the island to pick up Danny from Nana's and meet everyone for lunch. And then Friday evening we walked to dinner at Nikki's.

On Saturday, Dan, Kevin and Jimmy went fishing, while us girls hung around the house and met my mom for lunch.

Sunday, Dan, Marisol, Jimmy and I took the boat for a morning beach walk on Masonboro Island.

Breakfast of Champions - Bloodies and chips
Lots of conch
And then we all got together with Kevin, Stef and my mom to watch the Redskins game.

Such a fun and eventful weekend! Thanks for coming to visit Granddad and Lita! We love you! Now to get ready for my meeting. Back to the real world :(

Danny at 5 Months

Danny is such a bundle of 5 month old energy. I'm sure I've said this every month, but he's truly in such a fun stage. He's started to really like playing with his toys and reading books. He won't stay in one position for more than a few seconds. He's back-to-belly, belly-to-back, repeat. He LOVES his mommy and daddy, grins and giggles when he sees us. We continue to be amazed at how fast he's growing. He's such a sweet little boy. We love him exponentially more every day. Happy 5 months Danny boy!
1, 3 and 5 month comparison
Weight: 15.6 lbs

Likes: Rolling!, his grandparents, aunts and uncles, sucking on his toes, jabbering, taking walks, his toys, watching mommy bake and cook, reading books, baths

Dislikes: When mommy walks away, being awake past his bedtime, not sure about kisses from Malloy, sudden, loud noises

Sleeping: Unfortunately, most nights Danny sleeps like a newborn, waking every couple hours. Then there are some nights where he sleeps ALL night and then there are those nights where he just wakes once. His signature move, however, is still waking in the 4 o'clock hour...for the day. I can't say that Danny is an unusually bad sleeper, but I definitely can't say he's a good one either. As he approaches the 6 month mark, I'll probably resort to a little cry-it-out, starting with his first night waking. While he eats good when he gets up, I know he can't be that hungry that he needs food every two hours all night.  He's just being a stinker and wants to play. On a more positive note, he is going down for naps and night time a little better - definitely fighting it less. Speaking of naps, Danny still doesn't so much "care" for them, which can make working during the day a little challenging. I'm thinking he's going to be one of those babies that doesn't need a lot of sleep during the day, but I'm hoping he starts napping just a little longer as he gets older.

Eating: Still hard to get the boy to nurse very long during the day - too much fun stuff to do, mom - but he seems to be getting plenty. That and the fact that he's eating rice cereal before bed. Let's just say, he's not going hungry! Starting next week, I'm going to give him some rice cereal for breakfast too and then when he gets "good" at that I'll introduce his first vegetable. The little piggy still gets his food everywhere - from the top of his head to the tips of his toes!

Thanks to Desi and Rafeal

Hurricane Rafeal created some decent swell yesterday. Lucky for Jimmy, local photographer, Desi Boyer, was out early capturing surfers and the beautiful sunrise.

Hard to see, but that's Jimmy in the last two pictures
Desi, second from the right, just got back from a tour in Afghanistan. Welcome back Desi! Thanks for your service and these beautiful pictures!

And now for your daily dose of Danny, here he is looking like (a serious) Elmer Fudd on a morning walk to the bank...

Jailbird

We have been so fortunate to get some hand-me-downs from Amie and Kelly.  We've gotten some really cute stuff! Amie even sent us some hand-me-downs from her friend Kate in Italy. I'm pretty sure this is one of the "Italy outfits" and I think it's just adorable. Our little jailbird...
