Very Belated Long/O'Connor Wedding Update

Well Kelly and Spencer's wedding weekend in Corolla, NC was so amazingly fun that I'm just now, a week later, finally feeling well rested again. Where do I even begin? How about with me getting my first speeding ticket on the way there? Sigh. No, that's no fun. How about the accommodations? Kelly, the bridesmaids, mother of the bride and our husbands, were put up in one of the Long's beach houses. Such a nice place. Look at the cute sign Mrs. Long had made for the house...

The groomsmen were a nice, short walk away in a beachfront place called "Toes in the Sand" - the after-party spot every night.

Now for the chain of events. Thursday afternoon Jimmy and I got into town just in time to have a cold one and then head out to the Long's big beach house in the 4WD territory for a casual pizza party. The car I was in, driven by the father of the bride, made it up the "driveway" - actually just a dent in a dune. The mother of the bride's car was not so lucky. Mr. Long helped them out and the pizza party was underway.

It wouldn't be a party without an after-party. Here's Jimmy and Matt, one of the bridesmaid's husbands, taking some pizza in case we get hungry later at the groomsmen's house...

Friday ended up being a great beach day, which most everyone took advantage of. Friday night, of course, was the rehearsal dinner. The event was held at the Currituck Club, a local country club. The menu? Comfort food like crab cakes, mashed potatoes, hush puppies, fried chicken and Carolina pulled pork. Everything was amazing. So good in fact that I ate myself out of commission for Friday night. I'm happy to say the after-party went on without me. Here's some pics from the night...

Saturday - the BIG day - was, no surpise, the funnest day of all. We had a great spread of snacks (thanks Martha!) , mimosas and bloody marys while we got ready. The stepmother of the bride's wonderful cousin, Margie, offered her hair styling services to all the bridesmaids and the bride. It was so nice to not have to go out to the salon. After we all paced the house a couple hundred times in anticipation of the main event, it was finally time for the limo to pick us up and take us to the venue, the Whalehead Club in Corolla, NC. Located on the lawn, overlooking the water, the ceremony was nothing short of amazing. I pretty much cried the whole time. Kelly looked beyond beautiful. Now some highlights of the super fun reception:

Signature Drink - Orange Crushes - classic Virginia Beach drink - served in mason jars with a bendy straw :)
First Dance - Ray Le Montagne "You are the Best Thing"
Band - Don't know their name, but they were good!
Food - Cheeseburger sliders, coconut shrimp and more!
Cake - Very yummy cupcakes
Best Decoration - The white lights and branches over the dance floor!

10pm was too early for the fun to end, so some of the guys talked the wedding coordinator into letting them take one of the kegs. In the process, the tap got screwed up, so we had to figure out a less civilized way to get the beer out. I didn't see the Macgyver action firsthand, but I know it involved a tube that constantly sprayed beer on it's operator. Someone finally had the bright idea to just nip the problem in the bud and start filling bigger containers for partygoers to share. Pictured below: Jimmy with the biggest thing he could find, a hurricane candle holder, and his more civilized dad.

Sunday Jimmy and I rolled out of bed early to get home to see my mom who was in town dogsitting Malloy. Such a fun wedding weekend, but so glad it's now Saturday again. The beach is calling me...
